Operations Research on Impacts of Child Friendly Spaces in Emergencies
This research brief is for a study to investigate Child Friendly Spaces (CFS). CFS is a widely used tool to help protect children in emergencies. Also called Safe Spaces, Child Centred Spaces and Emergency Spaces for Children, CFS is used by a growing number of agencies in an increasing range of contexts and emergencies but a commonly agreed set of standards, best practice, monitoring and evaluation tools have not yet been fully developed. A strong evidence base is lacking and there is a significant need for further research into CFS to better understand their effectiveness and help develop better systems of measurement for them.

DfID Emergency Cash-First Response to Drought-affected Communities in Southern Provinces, Zimbabwe
The project supports 56,100 vulnerable households (~336,600 people) affected by severe drought in the southern provinces of Zimbabwe (Matebeleland North and South, Masvingo and Midlands). The action will address the immediate food needs of vulnerable men, women, boys and girls through the provision of mobile unconditional cash transfers that aim to cover 50% of the household food basket and nutritional needs of the beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will redeem cash to address basic household needs, primarily local food purchase. The project will encourage the local availability of nutritious food by facilitating partnerships between local general dealers and suppliers

The project seeks increase enrolment and, retention and to improve learning outcomes of a least 15,000 marginalised girls aged 10-19 in Zimbabwe through addressing some of the key barriers to access and quality of education. Working with communities and local governance structures as drivers of change the project will tackle economic and social/cultural barriers and empower girls to improve learning outcomes, enrolment and attendance rates. The project will utilize community-based structures to strengthen capacities of local authorities to understand, monitor and integrate evidence-based strategies to address girl child education and will develop an evidence base for continued engagement with MoESC. World Vision will lead the consortium with CARE International and SNV.
